Robbinsdale Mayor Brad Sutton Talks Funding Possibilities for New Projects
The City of Robbinsdale is interested in exploring a possible local option sales tax to help pay for its aging public works facility, according to Mayor Brad Sutton.

The state has to allow the city to pursue it, as other cities have in recent years–most notably Golden Valley and Maple Grove.
“That would just be a small little sliver of a tax on any sales that happen here locally,” Mayor Sutton told CCX Media’s Dave Kiser. “It’s a very creative way to help fund these things without having it show up in your property tax.”
The city has passed a 7.5% increase in the property tax levy to fund it’s 2026 budget, said Sutton.
“Nobody likes paying more in taxes,” said Sutton. “We get that.”
