Osseo Mayor Hopes New Cannabis Store Could Be Open This Summer
Osseo Mayor Duane Poppe said city council worked on many fronts at the very end of 2025 to get the 2026 budgeted property tax levy down as much as it could from the preliminary levy increase of 14 percent. Poppe told CCX Media’s Dave Kiser that the city worked on employees’ insurance and other benefits packages, eliminated payments on at least on tax increment financing district and closed others, and the result was an actual two percent property tax levy decrease.
“That was exciting,” Poppe said.
One thing the city will move forward on is converting the former News and Press building to a municipal cannabis store. Poppe hopes it can be open by the end of the summer.
“The goal is sometime this summer, but a lot of that will depend on the Office of Cannabis Management to give final approval once the construction is done,” he said.
The city is also looking for businesses to help sponsor this summer’s Music and Movies in the Park series again.
“It’s such a great event in the city of Osseo,” he said. “It really brings the community together.”
