New Hope Mayor’s Minutes: Seasonal Jobs and Spring Break Activities
New Hope Mayor Kathi Hemken talked with Dave Kiser about seasonal job opportunities with the city and some great spring break activities that are available for kids in this New Hope Mayor’s Minutes. She also provided an update on the search for a new city manager and a reminder that residents can apply for the Curbside Appeal program.
Seasonal Jobs
There are new seasonal positions available with the city of New Hope for those that are looking ahead to spring and summer.
“It seems early for this, but it takes a long time to get through the process,” explained Hemken.
More immediate seasonal jobs include adult softball umpires, gym attendants at the community gym, and playground employees. Hemken noted that softball umpires must be over 18 years old.
A little later this year, the city will have other seasonal jobs to offer like positions at the aquatic center and parks maintenance.
Some positions are already posted with more to come. Hemken recommended applying online.
Spring Break Activities
This spring break, kids will have some camps and classes to keep them occupied through New Hope Recreation.
Classes include soccer, basketball, or gymnastics camp, musical theater camp, and an indoor gardening camp. Hemken noted that anyone interested should sign up as early as possible.
Also, Hemken wanted to reinforce that there are accommodations for those who need help affording these activities. Those eligible and interested can go to City Hall and apply with photo identification and proof that you live in New Hope.
“The city will pick up half of the tab for these camps. We want the kids to participate and not have money be a factor for them,” Hemken said.
New City Manager
The search for a new city manager continues in New Hope. Earlier in the search, city leaders looked internally and considered having Police Chief Tim Hoyt fulfill both the role of city manager as well as police chief. It was later decided that that would be too difficult. He is stepping back into the singular role of police chief.
The city now hired a firm, DDA Human Services, to conduct the candidate search for the city manager position. Hemken expects the hiring process might take until June.
“We had to go to an outside firm because there’s just too much stuff that needs to be done to get the right person for the job,” Hemken explained.
Curbside Appeal
Lastly, Hemken wanted to make residents aware that the Curbside Appeal program continues to be available. This lets homeowners make improvements to their home that are visible from the street and get partial reimbursement for them.
