New Hope Mayor John Elder Reflects on Budget Process
New Hope Mayor John Elder said he was satisfied the city council was able to pass a budget that only increased the property tax levy by less than five percent overall.
“We settled in at 4.93 percent, and that added a little bit of extra money into the street infrastructure fund,” Mayor Elder to CCX Media’s Dave Kiser. “Our water rates will go up a small amount, but that was necessary to make sure that we have a reliable, safe, and well-maintained system.”
Boards and Commissions
Mayor Elder also expressed the importance of filling openings on the city’s boards and commissions. As of the December taping of Mayor’s Minutes, there were openings on the human rights and planning commission.
“These commissions act as an advisory panel to the city council, and they will look into things that we’re considering, and really do the legwork,” said Elder. “They’re also a great conduit to the community.”
