Mayor’s Minutes: Maple Grove Mayor Explains More about City Survey
Mayor Mark Steffenson says the results from the 2022 resident survey show that the “overall quality of life” in Maple Grove is good. You can read the full survey results here.
Steffenson says one of the main issues that residents are concerned about is water quality, garbage collection, street maintenance, as well as park and recreation activities in the city.
Mayor Steffenson says the city is looking at how the city collects waste.
“If we went to a single hauler system for the city how that works there’s some statutory requirements to that that make it more difficult than to simply say, ‘we’re going to go out for bid’ for one hauler because you have to keep the haulers all in place so it’s a complicated process,” said Steffenson.
Looking to Improve City Water
Steffenson also says the city council and staff are looking into helping to improve the water supply for residents. There is some new technology that may allow residents to forgo the need for a water softener in their homes. Steffenson believes there may be a solution.
“There’s a bioengineering product that potentially exists out there. So that we might go to a citywide water softening system,” said Steffenson.
Looking to Plan Community Center Redevelopment Project
Starting April 1, the local option sales tax goes into effect to raise funds for the redevelopment of the Community Center. Steffenson says the city of Maple Grove is in the planning process of what the new Community Center will look like.
There has been work session to discuss the future of the site.
