Mayor’s Minutes: Crystal’s Jim Adams
Crystal Mayor Jim Adams spoke recently with CCX Media’s Dave Kiser about the city budget, election season, new opportunities to serve, and new opportunities to have your voice heard.
Adams said the city recently passed the new budget.
“We have probably what I call the best and worst budget I’ve ever seen,” Adams said.”It’s the worst because it’s 16% (increase in the levy) and that’s shocking, but it’s the best because we end up dealing with some issues in the past that are being solved. Moving forward, I think we’re in a very strong position.”
He said there is more information about the budget and some of the decision making behind it in one of his podcasts.
Early voting for November’s general election is underway, and Adams noted that there are two contested city races: for mayor and for the city council seat in Ward 3. There is also an election for Ward 4, section one, out of southern Crystal.
Adams also said the city has created a new sustainability commission.
“It’s designed to deal with conservation, natural resources, and the environment,” he said. “So, it’s bringing a lot of things that were kind of fragmented in, and making this more focused.”
He also announced this year’s Tri-City Police Community Engagement Forum, on Wednesday, October 29 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Crystal Community Center. Police chiefs from Crystal, New Hope, and Robbinsdale will be there to answer questions.
“You can ask about our policies, our procedures. There’s a lot of things going on in our communities that we share, and we can talk about those challenges in the open room,” Adams. said. “That’s a great opportunity for you to come and express those concerns.”
