Maple Grove Police to Launch New Public Notification System
Maple Grove public safety officials say the city will roll out its latest public notification program later this summer, as the city will now partner with Everbridge.
“It’s subscriber-based, so we need our residents to sign on and it allows us to make those critical notifications when something is happening in our city, whether it’s weather-related, or it’s a fire, or it’s some kind of police activity,” said Maple Grove Police Chief Eric Werner. “It’s also specific. Instead of doing it city-wide, we can draw the map, be very targeted if we need to, or we can do it citywide.”
He said the department, along with fire department officials, should be able to provide more information about the program and how to sign up when the city hosts its annual National Night Out events in early August.
Chief Werner said some of his officers will be participating in mid-May in events to commemorate National Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15 amid National Police Week. He said Maple Grove residents can help mark the occasion and show their support by switching out porch lights to blue lights if possible.
“We can’t ignore that it’s divisive time, but when the day is done, when you take a look behind the scenes, there’s a lot of community support for our police department here in Maple Grove and, I think, in most communities,” said Werner. “We really have to pay attention to that and not the other noise and rhetoric we hear.”
