Maple Grove Leaders Pleased With Progress of Curbside Organics Recycling
About six months in, city leaders remind residents about curbside organics recycling’s availability and relative ease.

Maple Grove city leaders say when the curbside organics recycling program started earlier this year, about ten percent of residents were already involved.
“We started with about ten percent of our population already engaged in organics, which is a great number to have at the very beginning,” said City of Maple Grove Water Resources Engineer Derek Asche. “It has since grown. We’ll have new numbers maybe mid-year and and again at the end of the year to see how the service is expanding.”
Asche said the summer is the perfect time to remind residents what is and is not allowed in their curbside organics recycling bins.
“As people’s gardens grow and they harvest vegetables and things from their gardens, or they visit the farmer’s market, those types of materials are compostable and can go in the organics recycling,” he said. “A lot of items out there can be recycled in the organics recycling bin, including coffee grounds and that type of material.”
He also said there could be ways for organics recycling to save you money in the long run.
“We’ll continue to spread the word as well as our recommendations for people once they start the organics is: take a look at your trash bin, and see if you even need one that big,” said Asche. “Maybe there’s a cost savings there for you for doing more organics recycling and reducing the size of your trash bin.”
