Maple Grove A Hot Spot For Winter Recreation Seekers
The Ice Skate Loop in Central Park has become one of Maple Grove’s hottest winter hangouts.
The refrigerated rink is 810 feet long and 20 feet wide, and gets regular Zabomi service so the ice stays smooth for skaters.
“We just felt like we needed some exercise after the cold weather,” stated Nancy Riley, Otsego, who drove down with her husband, David, to skate the Loop.
“We were here a year ago with our grandkids skating and it was really fun, and we thought we would just try it out again,” said Nancy Riley.
The Riley’s are senior citizens and regularly drive to Maple Grove to partake in the city’s many winter recreation offerings.
“I’m getting my strength back from a surgery a year ago, so I’m feeling good,” stated David Riley.
The couple counts cross-country skiing and tubing at Elm Creek Park Reserve as some of their favorite ways to stay active during the winter months.

The Riley’s are also avid Pickleball players.
“The Lifetime offers Pickleball here in Maple Grove, you just have to have your SilverSneakers membership and you can partake in all of the activities,” said Nancy Riley.
The SilverSneakers program only works for Life Time’s bronze and gold clubs, which include New Hope, Plymouth and Maple Grove.
“It’s good to stay active and try new things and just be out there, right?” said Nancy Riley.
