Crystal Continues Work on Climate Resiliency Plan
The City of Crystal continues plans to develop two parcels into multi-unit apartment buildings.
One would be a 44-unit building near the intersection of Bass Lake Road and County Highway 81 that would be mostly affordable housing units. The other would be a larger building with more than 170 units to go up on the site of the former Wells Fargo branch on Bass Lake Road near Broadway. Both projects would be catalysts for the city’s larger Town Center Vision.
“We want to spruce up the look of the area, try to attract some new types of business to the area,” said Mayor Julie Deshler in her interview with CCX Cities’ Dave Kiser. “It’s a 25-year process, if you will. And it’s going to take time, and we’re hoping that in the next 25 years we can create a new Crystal look.”
Climate Action
The city also continues work on its overall climate resiliency plan, called Resilient Crystal 2035. The second public meeting of the spring is on May 23 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Crystal City Hall. City leaders and the sustainability commission hope to gather more public input about how the city can best approach the development of its plan, which could be adopted by city council as early as this summer and shape the ways the city and residents can better protect the environment, among other goals.
One way Deshler and others hope to continue to contribute is by picking up litter.
“Once the snow melts, the litter seems to just be overwhelming,” she said. “It takes a village, I guess. If we could all work together to pick up–if you see some litter and it’s safe to do so, stop and pick it up and dispose of it properly. If we all work as a team, we can keep Crystal clean.”
