Wood Bat Little League Tournament Benefits Baseball in Benin
The annual Wood Bat Little League baseball tournament benefiting Baseball in Benin returns to Robbinsdale and St. Louis Park this week.
41 teams are signed up for this year’s tournament.
Proceeds go to the Baseball in Benin foundation. It’s a program to introduce baseball to the small West African country of Benin.
Plans are being finalized to build a field in Benin, and one of the leaders of their baseball organization will be here this weekend to observe the tournament.
Teams from Benin have made the trip to the Twin Cities to play in the tournament twice in past years.
There is a player from Benin who is living in Minnesota and playing adult town-team ball this summer, and he will attend a community college and play baseball this coming school year.
Games run Thursday through Sunday at Lakeview Terrace, Sanborn, and Lee parks in Robbinsdale and at Northside Park and Skippy Field in St. Louis Park.
Each player receives a wood bat and T-shirt.
