Wayzata’s Mara Braun Commits to U of M Women’s Basketball
Wayzata High School junior Mara Braun announced Thursday her verbal commitment to play college women’s basketball at the University of Minnesota.
The 5’11” guard is considered one of the state’s top recruits from the Class of 2022.
As a sophomore Braun averaged 15 points, five assists and rebounds and three steals per game for the Section 6AAAA runner-up Trojans and was named second team All-Metro.
She had several Division One offers but as a lifelong Gophers fan chose to stay home and play for Coach Lindsay Whalen.
Nia Holloway from Eden Prairie and Chaska’s Mallory Heyer have also committed to the Gophers from the Class of 2022.
Braun and University of Utah recruit Jenna Johnson should again make Wayzata one the state’s top teams in Class 4A.
Minnesota high school and youth sports are currently on hold until at least midnight on December 18th because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
