In a good early season matchup of two talented girls basketball teams, Wayzata prevailed 59-53 at Maple Grove Thursday night. The Trojans jumped out to an early lead before Maple Grove closed the first half strong to take a 29-27 lead into halftime. Autumn Mlinar heated up from the floor for the Crimson and Katrina Theis repeatedly got to the free throw line and cashed in to help Maple Grove grab the lead. After a tough first half, Trojans standout post player Kallie Theisen came on strong in the second half with all 19 of her points coming after halftime. Sophomore Annika Stewart added 13 points for the Trojans. Theis scored 21 and Mlinar 19 for the Crimson, who dropped to 1-1 with the loss.
