Wayzata Tops Maple Grove in Girls Basketball Season Opener
The Wayzata girls basketball team defeated Maple Grove 79-66 Tuesday in the season-opening game for both teams.
Trojans’ senior guard Mara Braun scored 37 points, 27 of them in the first half, and added seven rebounds and five steals in a game Wayzata led most of the night. Sophie Hawkinson scored 14 points and Brynn Senden added 12 for the Trojans.
Five Maple Grove players scored in double figures—Kyla Overseki (16 points), Kennedy Klick (14), Ava Cossette (12), Jordan Ode (11) and Claire Stern (11).
Wayzata led 48-39 at halftime and never allowed the Crimson to get closer than three points in the second half.

Both teams play in the Breakdown Sports Tip-Off Classic this weekend at Hopkins High School. Wayzata faces Becker Friday night while Maple Grove plays Minnetonka Saturday afternoon.
