Wayzata, Hopkins Girls Basketball Win Big at Breakdown Classic
The Wayzata and Hopkins girls basketball teams each won handily in their games at the Breakdown Sports Tip-Off Classic over the weekend.
The two-day event at the Lindbergh Center in Minnetonka featured 22 games over two games.
Hopkins played twice on its home court and beat Appleton (WI) east 91-59 on Friday and then Saturday beat Chaska 70-45. The Hawks, defending state class AAAA champions, ended the Royals’ season in the state semifinals a year ago.
All five Hopkins starters scored in double figures in both games. The Royals are now 5-0 to start the season.
Wayzata played one game at the Breakdown and routed Becker 80-52. Mara Braun led a balanced scoring attack with 22 points. The Trojans are now 2-0 and host Chanhassen Tuesday.
