Wayzata, Hopkins Boys and Wayzata Girls Nordic Teams Qualify for State
The Wayzata boys and girls Nordic ski teams and the Hopkins boys all qualified for state Monday at the Section 6 championships.
The Trojans boys team finished with 390 team points, just ahead of runner-up Hopkins (377).
Other local boys teams included Armstrong (4th place), Heritage Christian (6th), Breck (7th), Benilde-St. Margaret’s (8th) and Cooper(9th).
Outside of state team qualifiers Wayzata and Hopkins, local individual state qualifiers included Josh Frett of Breck, and Armstrong’s Boden Sundell and Anders Decker.
Logan Drevlow of Hopkins was the boys pursuit race champion, ahead of defending section champion Daniel McCollor of Wayzata.
Matthew Jenneke and Charlie Gundale of Wayzata won the boys’ relay event.
In the girls meet St. Louis Park won the team title, winning a tie-breaker with Wayzata. Both teams qualify for state.
Other local teams included Hopkins (4th place), Breck (5th), Armstrong (6th), Heritage (7th), Benilde-St. Margaret’s (8th) and Cooper (9th).
Lila Golomb of Wayzata was the top local finisher, coming in third place. Daphne Grobstein of Hopkins and Breck’s Esme Gulbransen both qualified for state as individuals. Hopkins also qualified a relay team to state.
St. Louis Park’s Hanna Wilsey was the individual pursuit race champion.
Wayzata’s Margaux House and Carlee Freeman won the girls’ relay race.
The state Nordic meet is scheduled for February 14-15 at Giants Ridge in Biwabik.
