Wayzata Girls Hockey Wins Holiday Tournament Opener
The Wayzata girls hockey team erupted for four goals in less than a minute in the second period of a 6-1 win over Duluth in the first round of the Herb Brooks Holiday Classic in Blaine.
The teams were scoreless after a pretty even first period.
Wayzata broke the deadlock just over five minutes into the second when Nicole Britz knocked in a rebound.
Shyla Sanders scored just 11 seconds later to make it 2-0.
The Trojans were awarded a penalty shot and Rhiannon Lawrence converted for a 3-0 lead.
The barrage continued when Jenna Britz scored for a 4-0 lead, with all of the goals coming in just 53 seconds of game time.
Mae McCall scored a shorthanded goal for Duluth to make it 4-1 after two periods, but Nicole and Jenna Britz each added a goal in the third to secure the win.
Wayzata is facing Mankato East in the Gold division semifinals Wednesday afternoon.
