Wayzata Girls Hockey Preps for Big Games Ahead
Off to a 7-2 start the Wayzata girls hockey team is preparing for two big early-season games. The 7th-ranked Trojans play 9th-ranked Hill-Murray Saturday and 2nd-ranked Edina on Tuesday, both on the road. The Hornets are the defending state Class AA champions.
The Trojans are coached this year by former Edina and University of Minnesota player Taylor Williamson with her father Dean as co-head coach. Dean Williamson coached the Wayzata boys hockey team in the early-mid 1990s.
Wayzata is averaging four and a half goals per game so far. Gretchen Branton leads the Trojans in scoring with 13 goals and 8 assists. Sloane Matthews has scored 10 goals and Sophie Urban nine in the team’s first nine games.
