Wayzata Girls Basketball Edges Maple Grove in Season Opener
The Wayzata girls basketball team overcame a five-point halftime deficit to beat host Maple Grove 60-56 in the season opener for both teams.
Maple Grove closed the first half strong to build a 32-27 halftime lead.
Wayzata surged to start the second half to re-take the lead.
It remained close all the way through but the Trojans hit key free throws to preserve the lead.
Four of Wayzata’s five starters scored in double figures. Sophia Hawkinson scored 12, Shannon Fornshell and Abby Krzewinski 11 each and Kate Amelotte 10.
Jordan Ode poured in 30 to lead Maple Grove.
Both teams will play the Breakdown Tipoff Classic this weekend at the Royals Activity Center at Hopkins High School.
