Wayzata Girls Basketball Beats Elk River
The Wayzata girls basketball team Elk River 72-65 in a matchup of top ten teams Thursday.
Wayzata is rated seventh in class AAAA, while Elk River is tenth.
The Trojans built a six-point halftime lead at 32-26.
The lead grew to double figures in the second half, and while Elk River battled back, they never could close the gap completely.
Katie Kelzenberg led Wayzata with 18 points and excelled as a rebounder and defender inside, holding Elk River’s top scorer Kayla Christy to six points.
Five Wayzata players reached double figures in the win. Along with Kelzenberg’s 18, Kate Amelotte had 12, Sophie Hawkinson and Maren Day 11 each, and Allie Berns 10.
Britta Demar and Joanna Talso each had 21 for the Elks.
Wayzata is now 6-2.
