Wayzata Football Team Falls to St. Michael-Albertville
It’s two games, two close losses for defending state class AAAAAA football champion Wayzata this fall.
The Trojans lost 21-14 to St. Michael-Albertville Thursday night.
The teams traded touchdowns in the second quarter, with the game tied 7-7 at halftime.
Wayzata took the lead for the first time on a 26-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Harvey to Julian Diedrich late in the third quarter.
Two explosive plays for STMA turned the tide of the game.
Running back David Collins broke a tackle at the line of scrimmage and then took off for a 64-yard touchdown to tie the game 14-14 early in the fourth quarter.
Less than two minutes later Knights running back Max Keefer turned a short pass into a 76-yard touchdown for the 21-14 lead.
Wayzata got a goalline stop very late in the game but a final downfield pass was intercepted by Owen Vike.
