Wayzata Boys Hockey Ready for State Tournament; Hill-Murray Out
After the thrill of qualifying for the state boys hockey tournament, the Wayzata Trojans faced some uncertainty on the eve of the tournament.
Wayzata won the Section 6AA title by beating Benilde-St. Margaret’s 3-2 last Wednesday.
They went unseeded for the Class AA state tournament and drew defending champ and number two seed Hill-Murray in the quarterfinals.
Hill-Murray’s participation in the tournament was put in doubt when they realized they had possible COVID-19 exposure from their section final game.
Tuesday night Hill-Murray informed the Minnesota State High School League that they will not be participating in the tournament. The Pioneers and Trojans were slated to play the opening game of the state tournament Wednesday morning at the Xcel Energy Center.
Wayzata now advances to Friday’s semifinals.
