Wayzata Boys Hockey Eager to Face Tough Schedule
The Wayzata boys hockey team is set to face one of the state’s toughest schedules.
The Trojans return 12 players from a team that won 14 games and finished third in the Lake Conference last season.
The Trojans have a veteran group of forwards, and the team has more firepower than in many recent seasons.
The top three scorers return: Gavin O’Connell, Jake Keller, and Jake Schneider will start the season playing together on the first line.
While Wayzata did graduate some key defensemen, they do have a talented young group.
Wayzata coach Pat O’Leary tried to schedule the toughest teams he could in the shortened 18-game schedule.
They’ll be battle tested by the end of this regular season, and Wayzata hopes to make a playoff run.
The Trojans open the season Friday night at Blake. Wayzata’s first five games are on the road.
