Wayzata Boys Hockey Defeats Benilde-St. Margaret’s in Battle of Unbeatens
The Wayzata boys hockey team scored three unanswered goals in the third period and earned a big 6-3 win over Section 6AA rival Benilde-St. Margaret’s.
Both the Trojans and Red Knights came into the match-up undefeated at 5-0 and ranked in the top 10 in the latest state-wide Class AA rankings.
It was a back-and-forth game in the early going with BSM scoring first from a Mason Stenger wrister and Wayzata answering with a goal from Cade De St. Hubert to make it 1-1 after the first period.
In the second period, both teams scored two goals. The Red Knights’ Junior Podein and Cameron Kirschner recorded goals for BSM and Finn De St. Hubert and Brittan Alstead scored for the Trojans, making it 3-3 after two periods.
The third period belonged to Wayzata, as Carson Clark, Luke Miller, and Eli Molde all scored, securing the 6-3 win.
The Trojans are now 6-0 on the season and will be at Centennial on Saturday.
The Red Knights will look to bounce back against Blake next Tuesday.
