Wayzata Boys, Girls Sweep Titles at 6AAA Cross Country
The Wayzata boys and girls cross country teams each brought home championship trophies Wednesday as the Trojans swept the team titles at the Section 6AAA meet.
The Wayzata girls team total of 21 points was well ahead of section runner-up Hopkins– the Royals finished with 65 points. Both teams qualified for state.
Trojans’ senior Abbey Nehanicky set a Gale Woods course record for girls and recorded a personal best time of 16 minutes, 43.70 seconds to win the meet. Hopkins’ Sydney Drevlow finished second in 17:36.11.
Grace Mignone and Maddie Gullickson of Wayzata placed third and fourth respectively, just ahead of Armstrong’s Caitlyn Osanai.
The Wayzata boys finished the 6AAA meet with 39 points with Minneapolis Washurn (60) placing second as a team.
Sam Scott of Minneapolis Southwest took first place with a time of 15:08.69. Aidn Jones of Washburn finished second and Hamza Mohamed of Wayzata placing third in 15:30.86.
Armstrong’s Noah Breker, last year’s race champion, finished fourth in 15:32.56.
Daniel McCollor and William Weber from Wayzata placed fifth and sixth.
The state meet for both boys and girls is Saturday November 5th at St. Olaf College in Northfield.
