Wayzata Beats White Bear Lake in State Boys Basketball Quarterfinal
The Wayzata boys basketball team beat White Bear Lake 81-61 Tuesday to advance to the semifinals of the state Class AAAA tournament.
The Trojans, trailing 20-19 midway through the first half, then used a 16-0 scoring run to go ahead by double digits for the rest of the game.
Hayden Tibbits, a Mr. Basketball finalist, scored 17 points to lead the Trojans. Jackson McAndrew added 14 while the Trojans got big contributions from Isaiah Habte (13 points) and Ben Schaffer (12). Habte and Shaffer combined have averaged 10 points per game.
Wayzata made 13 of 24 (54 %) of their three-pointers and shot 54 % overall for the game from the field.
Jack Janicki, a University of Wisconsin commit, scored 16 points for the Bears (21-8).
Third-seeded Wayzata (25-4) plays second-seeded Lakeville North (27-3) in the second AAAA semifinal Thursday night at Target Center.
The Panthers beat the Trojans 67-58 in Wayzata’s third game of the regular season.
Defending state champion Park Center plays Eastview in the first semifinal Thursday at 6:00 pm.
