Wayzata Boys Basketball Wins State Tournament Title
The Wayzata boys basketball team won the program’s first state title in 62 years, defeating Cretin-Derham Hall 75-61 in the Class AAAA championship game.
Drew Berkland scored 19 points, including five three-pointers, to lead the Trojans in scoring.
Camden Heide (17 points), Eddie Beeninga (16), and Kody Williams (11) also scored in double figures.
The Trojans led 35-28 at halftime and never allowed the Raiders to get closer than five points the rest of the way.
Tre Holloman scored 20 points to lead Cretin-Derham Hall in scoring.
This was the sixth state tournament appearance for Wayzata (19-2) and their first championship since the 1959 team defeated Carlton 55-41 in the old one-class state tournament.
