Wayzata Boys Basketball Edges Lakeville North to Advance to Title Game
Hayden Tibbits hits a 12-foot jump shot with under two seconds to play to give the Wayzata boys’ basketball team a 79-77 win over Lakeville North in the semifinals of the state Class AAAA tournament.
Tibbits scored 24 points and Jackson McAndrew 28 for the Trojans. Jake Schmitt added 10.
Lakeville North was led in scoring by Nolan Winter and Hudson Vaith who each scored 24 points.
The Trojans led 44-31 at halftime and increased their lead to 20 points in the second half before the Panthers rallied to tie and briefly take the lead before Wayzata’s final push in the closing minutes to win the game.
Wayzata (26-4) had lost to Lakeville North (27-4) early in the regular season.
The Trojans now play Park Center (28-2) for the Class AAAA championship Saturday at 8:00 pm at Target Center.
The Pirates, a winner over Eastview in Thursday’s other semifinal, beat Wayzata in last year’s title game.
