Wayzata Beats Champlin Park in Prep Bowl
The Wayzata football team capped off an unbeaten season with a 35-20 win over Champlin Park in the Prep Bowl.
The Trojans outscored the Rebels 21-3 in the second half after trailing 17-14 at halftime.
Christian Vasser broke the Prep Bowl record with 49 rushing attempts. Vasser ran for 285 yards and five touchdowns.
Champlin Park had a 3-0 lead after one quarter and two Shawn Shipman touchdown runs in the second quarter have the Rebels the lead.
Wayzata’s strong defense mostly kept the Rebels in check in the second half.
Vasser and Wayzata’s offensive line combined to wear Champlin Park down in the second half.
It’s the fourth state championship in program history for Wayzata.
