Wayzata Baseball Beats St. Cloud in State Tournament Opener
The Wayzata baseball team kept its unbeaten record intact, rallying to beat St. Cloud 6-5 Thursday in the opening round of the State AAAA tournament.
The Trojans took a 3-0 lead in the second inning on run-scoring hits by Kieran Leatherman and Tyler Gullickson.
St. Cloud answered with a run in the third and three more in the fourth to briefly take the lead.
Gullickson’s second RBI of the day in the bottom of the fourth inning tied the game.
James Hansen’s two-run single in the fifth inning put Wayzata ahead for good.
Riley Leatherman earned the win on the mound for the Trojans with Brady Lash getting the save.
Wayzata (25-0) plays Mounds View (19-8) in the semifinals Friday afternoon.
The state championship games in all four classes are scheduled for Monday at Target Field.
