USA Cup Soccer Canceled for 2020
The Target USA Cup youth soccer tournament in Blaine has been canceled for 2020.
The COVID-19 pandemic led organizers to pull the plug on the event, scheduled for July 10-18.
In the past 35 years the tournament has become the largest in the United States.
In 2019, 1,152 teams from 22 states and 20 countries participated at Target USA Cup.
“For 35 years Target USA Cup has been known for being much more than just a soccer tournament. The international flair from players and referees, the variety of activities around campus during the week, pin trading, and our opening ceremonies event all help to create a one-of-a-kind experience” said Todd Johnson, executive director of the National Sports Center.
“In addition to safety, we knew it would be impossible for us to create an event with the caliber of activities and offerings that our players have come to look forward to year after year.”
All tournaments and leagues produced by the National Sports Center have been canceled through the month of July.
Target USA Cup is expected to return in July of 2021.
