Totino-Grace Baseball Shuts Out Benilde-St. Margaret’s, Advances to State Championship Game
64 pitches is all it took for Totino-Grace junior pitcher Jake Rantz to throw a complete-game shutout and advance the Eagles to their first-ever state championship game.
Totino-Grace took down the number one seed in the Class AAA bracket, Benilde-St. Margaret’s, by a score of 2-0.
Both of the Eagles’ runs came in the third inning when Collin Blake hit an RBI single, and Tommy Heifort connected on a sac fly to right field.
Rantz (7 IP, 3 hits, 0 runs, 2 K’s) got ahead in the count all afternoon and relied on his defense to get the job done.
The Eagles will face Mahtomedi on Friday afternoon at Target Field in the Class AAA state championship. Benilde-St. Margaret’s fell to Grand Rapids 4-1 in the third place game.
The Red Knights finish their season with a 21-5 record.
