Three Wrestlers from NW Suburbs Win State Titles
Three wrestlers from the northwest suburbs celebrated state championships Saturday night.
Joey Thompson of Totino-Grace captured his third title, winning the class AA 120-pound championship.
Thompson beat Max Peterson of Byron 7-4 in the title match.
Cael Swensen of Wayzata won his first title.
The junior took the class AAA 138-pound crown by beating Nick Novak of New Prague 9-2.
RJ Chakolis of Hopkins is the class AAA 195-pound champion.
Chakolis beat William Busch of New Prague 3-1 in overtime.
In addition, Wayzata’s Cayden Homme of Wayzata finished second at 182 pounds.
Cal Lonnquist of Wayzata placed third at 113 pounds.
Osseo’s Jacob Meissner and Jagger Schack and Wayzata’s Mac Kukowski and Kyler Wong placed fourth.
