STMA Edges Hopkins in State AAAA Girls Basketball Title Game
The Hopkins girls’ basketball team lost its bid to win back-to-back state championships, falling 71-70 to St. Michael-Albertville in the Class AAAA final.
The Royals, who trailed by 21 points in the first half and by as many as 20 in the second half, pulled to within a point on Kelly Boyle’s three-pointer with two seconds to play.
But Hopkins didn’t get the ball back again as STMA avenged two regular season losses in winning the program’s third state title.
Tessa Johnson scored 27 points and JaKahla Craft 17 to lead the Knights (29-3).
The Royals (28-3) were led in scoring by Taylor Woodson (21 points) and NuNu Agara (18).
Agara, Woodson, and Liv McGill were named to the all-tournament team.
