State Class AA Singles and Doubles Highlights, Day 1
Maple Grove’s Zoe Adkins and Wayzata’s team of Greta Holmes and Tasha Piyabongkarn both won matches Thursday on the first day of singles and doubles play at the state Class AA girls tennis tournament.
Adkins defeated Cassandra Li of Eagan 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. She also won her semifinal round match Friday morning and is playing for the Class AA singles championship Friday afternoon.
Holmes and Piyabongkarn beat Benilde-St. Margaret’s Emme Johnson and Annika Olson 6-0, 3-6, 7-6 in the first round. However the Wayzata duo lost in the quarterfinal round to Minnetonka’s Emilija Medzuikaite and Maddie Prondzinski.
