Signing Day for Local Athletes
Wednesday was a big day for college bound athletes in the northwest suburbs as NCAA letter of intent signing ceremonies were held at several local schools.
At Park Center, boys basketball standouts Braeden Carrington (Minnesota) and Leo Torbor (San Jose State) signed their letters of intent.
Wayzata had a dozen athletes sign, with eight of them present for a ceremony. Four volleyball standouts were preparing for their state tournament opener.
Trojans’ signees included volleyball players Ella Voegele (UNC-Greensboro), Katy Riviere (North Dakota), Emma Goerger (St. Thomas), and Sierra Moore (Maryland-Baltimore County); girls hockey players Sloane Matthews (Ohio State) and Annika Lavender (St. Michaels College); baseball players Drew Berkland (Minnesota) and Quin Ask (Northern State); girls basketball player Mara Braun (Minnesota); boys basketball player Carter Bjerke (St. Thomas); girls soccer player Ramira Ambrose (Northwestern); and rower Anna Golbus (George Washington).
Champlin Park had six signees, all girls: basketball players Mikaelah Counce (Livingstone College) and Alicia Bates (Briar Cliff); volleyball player Allie Kopp (St. Thomas); soccer player Allie Hartig (Minnesota State-Mankato); softball player Abby Meads (Northern State); and track and field’s Adison Kapitzke (North Dakota State).
Hopkins signees include: girls basketball players Maya Nnaji (Arizona), Amaya Battle (Minnesota) and Alayna Contreras (Cochise CC, AZ); baseball players Maddox Mihalakis (Arizona), Jack Mausser (North Iowa CC), Gabe Olson (Upper Iowa), and Brock Zimmer (Upper Iowa); and softball players Lauren Granger (West Texas A&M) and Ruth Freiberg (Minnesota-Crookston).
