Section 5AAA Wrestling Individual Highlights
Wrestlers from the CCX viewing area in the northwest suburbs fared pretty well at the Section 5AAA individual wrestling tournament.
Wayzata won five section titles and had two more second place wrestlers qualify for state.
Section champs for the Trojans are: Luke Koenen (113 pounds), Logan Swensen (126), Charlie Petit (152), Adam Cherne (170), and Isaiah Schmitz (182). It’s the fourth section title for Cherne.
Maple Grove had one section winner (Ben Schultz at 195) and two second place finishers advance to state.
Park Center has a section champion (William Russell at 285).
Osseo and Hopkins each had one second place finisher.
As expected, top-ranked St. Michael-Albertville was dominant.
The Knights had a wrestler in every final except one and captured seven section titles.
The individual portion of the state wrestling tournament is Friday and Saturday at the Xcel Center.
