Rogers Boys Hockey Skates Past Champlin Park in Section 5AA Final
The Rogers boys hockey team advanced to the state tournament for the first time in program history with a 4-3 win over Champlin Park in the Section 5AA final Thursday night.
Nolan Geerdes opened the scoring for Rogers with a goal 2:23 into the game. Jake Vukich, Keaton Weis and Brock Cheslock all scored for the Royals in a span of 1:31 early in the second to stake Rogers to a 4-0 lead.
But Champlin Park chipped away. Brent Solomon scored a power-play goal in the second period to get the Rebels on the board.
Cole Perkins and Nick Carlson then netted goals in the first two minutes of the third period to pull Champlin Park to within a goal, but there was no more scoring the rest of the night.
Champlin Park (18-10-0) was playing in a section final for just the third time in school history and looking to advance to state for just the second time ever- the first coming in 1995.
