Providence Academy Rolls to Section Girls Basketball Title
The Providence Academy girls basketball team scored 57 second half points as the Lions rolled to an 95-81 win over Holy Family in the Section 5AA championship game.
Eighth-grade guard Maddyn Greenway scored 31 points to lead the Lions with Maria Counts adding 23 and Grace Counts 12 points.
Sophia Hall scored 24 points and Jocelyn Land 21 for the Fire who finish the season with a 25-5 record.
Providence (26-4) earned the top seed for the state Class AA tournament and plays Montevideo (25-3) in the state quarterfinals Wednesday at 6:00 pm at Williams Arena.
It’s the third straight year the Lions have played in the tournament. It’s the first state tournament appearance for the Thunder Hawks.
Providence lost to Albany in last year’s state championship game.
