Providence Academy Girls Basketball Beats Becker
The Providence Academy girls basketball team beat Becker 75-65 in a matchup of highly ranked teams Thursday.
Providence is rated number one in class AA and the Lions won the state title in that class last season.
Becker is ranked second in class AAA; the Bulldogs were champs in 2021 and second last season in that class.
Becker won an earlier meeting with Providence this season at the Breakdown Tipoff Classic.
This time, the Bulldogs were shorthanded due to injuries and Providence took advantage.
The Lions took a 40-36 lead into halftime after a buzzer beating hoop from freshman standout Maddyn Greenway.
They built that lead into double figures midway through the second half and Becker couldn’t match Providence’s scoring pace.
Greenway scored 27 to lead Providence Academy, with Brooke Hohenecker heating up in the second half to score 16.
Grace Counts (11) and Emma Millerbernd (10) also scored in double figures for Providence.
Ayla Brown had 29 for Becker. The Bulldogs were without standouts Marin Westin and Alexis Rose, who combined for 37 points in Becker’s earlier win over Providence, due to injuries.
