Providence Academy Football Wins Playoff Opener
The Providence Academy football team beat Glencoe-Silver Lake 24-14 Tuesday night in the quarterfinal round of the Section 2AAA playoffs.
The Lions opened the scoring in the first quarter on a 21-yard field goal by Ryan Hutt following a blocked punt by Colin Capouch.
Providence Academy extended its lead to 10-0 early in the second quarter on a two-yard touchdown run by running back Stormy Knight.
The Panthers answered two plays with an 82-yard touchdown pass from Landon Stifter to Sawyer Kaczmarek to make the score 10-6.
On its next drive Providence scored with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Eddie Dossantos to Matthew Bluford to give the Lions a 17-6 halftime lead.
Glencoe-Silver Lake scored a third quarter touchdown and two-point conversion in the third quarter to pull within 17-14 but the Lions sealed with game late in the fourth quarter on Knight’s second rushing touchdown of the game.
Providence Academy (7-2), the third seed in 2AAA, plays at second-seeded Watertown-Mayer Saturday at 2:00 pm in the section semifinals.
