Osseo Volleyball Celebrates 50 Years of First-Ever Minnesota State Championship Team
The first-ever Minnesota high school volleyball state championship was won by Osseo in 1974.
On Wednesday, before the start of the Osseo-Armstrong varsity match, that 1974 Orioles team was honored for their historic accomplishment 50 years ago.
High school volleyball today looks a lot different than it did a half-century ago. Back in the early 70’s, the nets were not taut, uniforms needed to be shared among three sports, and facilities at times did not have very high ceilings for proper volleyball play.
Despite the tough conditions, the Osseo team found a way to win the first-ever Minnesota high school state championship and members of that ’74 team are grateful for how far the sport that they helped pioneer has come today.
