Osseo Boys Basketball Holds Off Armstrong Rally
The Osseo boys basketball team built a big halftime lead but had to hold off a furious rally from Armstrong for a 56-55 win Tuesday.
Osseo closed the first half on a 22-2 run to take a 40-21 lead into halftime.
Armstrong dominated the second half, though, outscoring the Orioles 34-16 after the break.
The Falcons had two tries at a winning basket in the final seconds but neither shot would drop.
Osseo’s big Aaron Smith had a superb first half and finished with 19 points to lead the Orioles.
Armstrong’s Fitz Freeman was quiet in the first half but got the best of the inside matchup with Smith in the second half and finished with 18 to lead the Falcons.
Both outstanding point guards, Desmond Ware of Armstrong and De’Mari Larkins of Osseo, fouled out late in the game.
Ware had 14 points and 5 assists while Larkins had 13 and 8 assists.
Osseo is now 4-1. Armstrong dropped to 2-4.
