Opening Day for Maple Grove Girls Soccer
It’s a day they weren’t sure would come this fall.
Opening day for tryouts for the Maple Grove girls soccer team took place as scheduled Monday despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) announced two weeks ago that there would indeed be a fall soccer season.
No scrimmages are allowed, and the season has been shortened to conference play only.
Maple Grove won its first state title last fall, capturing the Class AA title.
It’s uncertain at this point if there will be a state tournament or any sort of postseason this fall due to the pandemic.
Maple Grove graduated some talented performers, but they do have some key players back, too.
Emma Fornier, Hannah Zaun, Kelley Kloncz, and Kylie Baranick are among the veteran leaders.
They hope to get a chance to defend their title, but even if not the Crimson players are excited to have a season.
