Maranatha Holds off Brooklyn Center in Boys Basketball Playoffs
The Maranatha Christian Academy boys basketball team held off an upset bid to beat Brooklyn Center 84-75 in Section 5AA first round play.
The Centaurs won just one game in the regular season but they had a 34-32 lead at halftime against the fifth-seeded Mustangs.
The game stayed close down the stretch with the lead changing hands a few times until Maranatha closed strong for the win.
Jeremiah LaVelle scored 36 points and Bailey McDonald 21 for MCA.
Ben Weyhee had 31 points and Quayvant Douglas 29 to lead Brooklyn Center.
Maranatha faces Litchfield in the section quarterfinals Saturday.
