Maple Grove’s Will Zellers Skates for Team USA at Summer Showcase
Maple Grove native Will Zellers is skating with some of the world’s best young hockey players at the World Junior Summer Showcase at Ridder Arena at the University of Minnesota this week.
Zellers was on one of the two USA teams for the tournament, which also includes Canada, Finland, and Sweden.
It’s a lead-in to the World Junior tournament, which will be in the Twin Cities in December and January.
Zellers played at Shattuck-St. Mary’s and last season played junior hockey for Green Bay of the USHL, where he led the league with 44 goals.
He’ll start his college career at the University of North Dakota this fall, and hopes to be chosen for Team USA for the World Junior tournament.
Zellers was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche but his rights were traded to Boston.
