Maple Grove’s Matt Lombardi Named Class 6A Football Coach of the Year
Four months after winning a state high school football championship, Maple Grove head coach Matt Lombardi was named the Class 6A Coach of the Year by the Minnesota Football Coaches Association.
The award came Saturday at the Association’s annual Hall of Fame Banquet. Lombardi guided the Crimson to a perfect 13-0 record in 2022 and the school’s first state title in football.
Lombardi told CCX that he views this “truly as a program award, so the credit goes out to all my assistant coaches, parents, community and most importantly, the kids. It was an unbelievable year and it was pretty cool we were recognized by the coaches from around the state with this honor.”
Maple Grove beat Rosemount 27-10 to win the Prep Bowl on December 2nd.
