Maple Grove’s Kilzer to Receive Courage in Competition Award
In the end, Jacob Kilzer said it was all worth it. The Maple Grove quarterback guided the Crimson football team to a 13-0 record and a state championship last fall, all while play the entire season with a torn labrum in both shoulders.
That perseverance earned Jacob the Star Tribune’s Courage in Competition award. Kilzer and nine other Minnesota prep athletes will be honored at a ceremony Wednesday evening in Minneapolis.
Kilzer accounted for 3600 yards of total offense and 33 touchdowns– 20 rushing and 13 passing.
He has since had surgeries on both shoulders and is back to throwing and working out pain-free.
Kilzer leaves next week for the Air Force Academy where he will continue his football career.
