Maple Grove Softball Wins State Title
The Maple Grove softball team won the state Class AAAA title by beating Stillwater 3-2.
It is the first softball title for the Crimson after three previous second place finishes.
Ava Dueck hit a solo homerun to start the scoring for the Crimson in the first inning.
Jade Tomashek drove in two runs in the fifth to give Maple Grove a 3-0 lead.
Things got interesting in the top of the seventh as defending champion Stillwater scored twice.
Pitcher Dueck got a glove on a liner up the middle and deflected it to 2nd baseman Tomashek.
Tomashek tagged a Ponies runner heading to second base for the final out of the tournament.
