Maple Grove Legion Baseball Wins Sub-State 11 Title
The Maple Grove Post 172 American Legion baseball team is headed to the state tournament after winning the Sub-State 11 title.
Maple Grove finished an unbeaten run through the tournament by beating Elk River 7-3 in the championship round Sunday.
One big inning did the trick for Maple Grove.
They fell behind 3-0 but put six on the board in the bottom of the fifth.
Chayton Fischer’s two-out, two-run double put a cap on the big inning.
With many of the same players Maple Grove qualified for the state high school tournament this spring.
The Division I American legion state tournament begins with pool play Thursday.
